Let's talk about Baking!
Now my father was the baker, he had his own bake shop. He made donuts, cakes, and pastries. He was the first one to use the donut holes. He put powdered sugar on them, and called them snow balls. This was back in the 1930's. Now by the time, I was old enough to learn how to bake, he was gone. So anything I know came from my mother and books. I believe if you put your mind to it, you can learn most anything from books. Now I like the decorating of the cakes. So I never bothered with learning to bake the cake from scratch. Unless I couldn't fined the kind I wanted in a box. I found a good recipe for butter cream frosting, which is the basic white iceing used for decorating. So the recipe given here is not my personal recipe. I got started with birthday cakes, for my kids. At first because of the cost of the store cakes and later I found I liked doing it. Learning how to decorate is mainly, learning what the different tips are for and the rest is practice, practice and more practice. There are thousands of cake recipes out there, and all kinds of frostings. My main purpose here is not recipes or frosting, but construction of special cakes.

1 How I made a doll cake for my daughters birthday. 2 Happy birthday for four people-- in one cake 3 Upon the Roof --For my son in law. Butter Cream Frosting 1) 1-cup of butter or margarine softened 2) 1-cup crisco 3) 3 lbs - 10x powdered sugar. 4) 1-1/2 tbs of vanilla Place Butter, Crisco and vanilla in mixing bowl. Blend at low to medium speed, then sift in the powdered Sugar gradually mixing until smooth and well blended. Frosting may be to soft to use right away due to heat, place in the refrigerater to chill. It is best to use powdered or paste food coloring instead of the liquid, as added mosture will make the frosting softer and harder to decorate with, keep chilled when not using for best results.
